Botulinum Injections ( Botox©, Vistabel©) have been used since 1960 to treat neurological disorders. In 2002 it was approved by the FDA for cosmetic use. Worldwide over 3.2million injections were carried out which makes it the most popular cosmetic treatment. All lost of data exist to support the safety of it's use for cosmetic treatments. Important to know is: Botox is a prescription medicine and can only be used by a medical professional.
Botox reduces muscle activity. It interrupts the signal between the nerves and the muscles. Therefore "dynamic wrinkles" are the best indication for Botox injections. Vertical lines just above the nose are mainly created by the action of the procerus muscle. A habit which can create lasting signs: "Frownlines" which can give a person an "angry" expression. Partially reducing the activity of the procerus musle (and others) will lead to a gradually smoothing of the Frownlines. The Procedure: a minute quantity of Botox© is injected into the muscle that cause dynamic lines, for example frown lines. the injection temporarily prevents nerve signals from reaching the muscle and, as a result, the muscle smoothes out. Treatment can take as little as 10 minutes and moste people return to normal activities immediatly afterwards.
The smoothing effect of teh first Treatment usually lasts for up to 4months. Repeated Treatments will extend that time.
